"Chickadaisical" (2023) is an abstract portrait of a Carolina chickadee which was photographed by the artist at his New Orleans home. The tiny winged visitor quickly became an obsession that would lead to a series of fictional narrative paintings, a developing series which features masked ghoulish creatures who are addicted to the effects of the chickadees and have evolved to consume the species exclusively. The series' overarching narrative is a conceptualization of the artist's personal battles with overcoming addiction. The patterned jewel toned background, painted entirely of wood stains, lends a psychedelic quality to the subject's characterization.

This painting includes a 12 x 12” acid-free 4 ply (1/16”) mat board in cream linen with 6.5 in (16.51 cm) circle cutout and 45-degree white core beveled edge, a 12 x 12" clear acrylic pane (3/32" depth) with non-glare glazing and OP-3 UV filtering, a 1 1/4" profile wood frame in matte black with 12 x 12" opening and overall dimensions of 14 1/8 x 14 1/8"
