Kyanite Towers (2023) is the second painting in an ongoing series inspired by a recurring dreamscape—a vision of towering, surreal rock formations rising above a sea of clouds. The series began with Andesine Liths (2023), and with each return of the dream, a new painting was created, capturing its shifting forms and atmosphere.
The title of this work references the Kyanite gemstone, reflected in the composition’s jewel-toned palette and crystalline architecture. Using long, vertical strokes of the palette knife, the artist evokes spires and ancient ruins suspended in a space that feels both monumental and untethered.
This body of work explores the boundary between memory and imagination, translating the fluid nature of dreams into textured, immersive landscapes. The materials themselves—cold-pressed paper and wood panel—play an integral role, their natural textures guiding the layered application of stain and pigment as the forms emerge from abstraction.
