Collection: Winged Rivers

is an ongoing series that examines the connections between natural systems, with particular attention to the relationships among rivers, skies, and the organisms that move between them. Inspired by the river systems of Louisiana and Mississippi and the native butterflies that inhabit these regions, the work integrates aerial views of waterways into wing structures, forming abstract compositions that merge geography with the symmetry of pollinators.

The series developed from the observation that the primary vein of a butterfly’s wing closely resembles the branching structure of a river. Building from this parallel, the imagery draws from cartography, biology, science, and abstract design. Rivers and wings are merged to present the landscape as an interconnected system shaped by movement, pattern, and environmental balance. Repeating forms across different natural structures emphasize how similar patterns appear at multiple scales within ecosystems.
